Tofu Press Care Instructions

To keep your tofu press and muslin cloth in excellent condition, regular cleaning and occasional re-oiling are essential. Follow these simple steps to maintain their quality and ensure they last for years to come.

How do I clean my tofu press?

After each use, gently wash your tofu press with warm water. Use a mild, non-fragranced detergent — fragrances can accumulate in the timber and affect the flavour of your tofu. Rinse well and allow it to air dry.

Does my tofu press need oiling?

Your tofu press comes pre-oiled with food-grade mineral oil. This may fade over time. To maintain it, you can re-oil with food-grade oils like tung oil (note: this is a nut oil and may be an allergen), mineral oil or any oil suitable for chopping boards. Re-oiling will help to maintain the timber and extend the life of the press

Please note: Our tofu presses come pre-oiled with food-grade mineral oil, a non-drying oil. As a result, you may notice a slightly oily surface on your new press. We recommend avoiding placing the press on surfaces that could be stained by oil until it has been washed once or twice, at which point any excess oil will be removed.

How do I clean muslin cloth?

The muslin cloth designed for our tofu presses is food-safe. To keep it this way, the cloth should be washed with suitable products. We recommend washing by hand with a mild, eco-friendly dishwashing liquid such as EnviroClean, then rinsing and hanging on the clothesline to dry. You may also place it in the washing machine with a non-toxic laundry detergent suitable for delicates. Hang to dry or tumble dry on low.
